Kabobs, An International Delicacy

Many all over the world enjoy kabobs. They are a very popular food, and their popularity is well deserved. Kabobs have eye appeal and a delectable taste. Their wonderful aroma of grilled meat and fat permeates the air, and they are a relatively inexpensive treat. Although tasty, kabobs are not a complex food. Meat and various vegetables are threaded to a skewer to produce an attractive and colorful presentation of food. Wherever in the world you may be enjoying kabobs, whether that be in the Middle East, Southeast Asia, parts of Europe, or even here in the states, you may find them prepared in different ways. Not only can skewers hold all the major food groups, it is also possible to use any combination of meats, marinades, vegetables, seafood, and even fruits on them. The most popular and well known of all the kabobs is the meat kabob. Any cut of meat, be it beef, pork, lamb, veal, or poultry is suitable for making them.

The originality of the kabob stems from the use of the skewer. They are an indispensable part of kabob cookery. Even the material made for the skewer varies depending where a person is in the world. They come in different sizes and shapes and are made of metal, wood, or bamboo. Also, the way kabobs are cut and placed on a skewer can emphasize its taste. Because the meat pieces used in kabob cookery are cut into small cubes or thin stripes and tenderized for marinating, it is more acceptable to use less tender, inexpensive cuts of meat.

Another plus about kabobs is the fact that they can be eaten anytime, and are fairly easy to make. They are also quite versatile and work as appetizers or main dishes. Kabobs are also seen as somewhat of a healthy alternative in this day and age. With there being an increased emphasis on low-fat foods and less meat and more vegetables in the diet, skewer cooking seems well suited to today's casual culinary lifestyle. All in all, kabobs are a tasty, easy-to-make, reliable, and healthier alternative; this is what makes them such delectable treats.

Kabobs are really a favorite of mine. The place I chose to review is actually my favorite kabob restaurant. Located in Springfield, Virginia with other locations in Annandale, VA, Tysons Corner, Va, and Washington D.C., the "Food Corner Kabob House," is as delicious as it is reliable. Some of the kabobs they sell include chicken, lamb, beef, salmon, and shrimp. I chose the chicken kabob to review. My full meal consisted of a skewer full of boneless charcoaled chicken, and a plate of salad, rice, chickpeas, and bread. A generous amount of food at a price of $11.75. My review of the kabob concludes that it was delicious. I loved how tender the chicken was, and how the side of rice and chickpeas complimented that. This was such an incredible meal. The "Food Corner Kabob House" never ceases to amaze me in the quality and rich taste its kabobs have to offer.

  1. You talk about the kabob being a healthy alternative in this day, but you also mention how delicious a kabob's fat smells. So, if it has a lot of fat how is it healthier? What is it a healthier alternative to?

Your description makes me want to go to that kabob house right now. It sounds so amazing! Thank you for the review. Good job.

  2. Thank you for your comment Alexandra. Kabobs are seen as a healthy alternative because the meat used is cut into very small cube-like pieces. I was comparing it to other meats which usually are cut into larger pieces.
